Railway Bridge Monitoring
Working with Network Rail, London Underground, consultants and contractors, Strainstall provides a comprehensive and tailored service to the rail industry. Key to our success in this sector is the ability to carry out our installation work within the rail possession regime and to use novel access arrangements whenever possible.
Typical Railway Bridge Monitoring Projects Include:
-
Long Term MonitoringWe provide sensors and data acquisition equipment that can be used long term to monitor for changes in structural condition. These systems are typically
provided with remote communications access, enabling data to be obtained remotely.
-
Static and Dynamic Live Load Testing
Following similar processes to those for highway bridges, we are able to set up and use appropriate instrumentation. The test loads can either be known weighed locomotives/wagons operated in possessions or regular passing traffic.
-
Stiffness and Damping Factor Measurement
It was necessary to assess the effect of a planned increase in linespeed on a number of underbridges. Strainstall measured displacement and acceleration, from which stiffness and damping factors were derived. These were used to tune and calibrate the assessment models.
