Ground movement can cause damage to buildings and structures above ground and to pipe lines, tunnels etc below gound. This damage is caused in several ways - by heave or shrinkage of soils, landslip, mining instability, settlement of filled sites and from construction and foundation works being carried out nearby. This movement may need to be monitored to alert asset owners of any changes to structural integrity so remedial action can be taken if necessary or, in the case of landslip, to provide warning of any slippage. Strainstall uses a comprehensive selection of measurement methods, including robotic total stations with prismatic targets, crackmeters and tiltmeters. In most cases, ground movement monitoring systems are provided with remote access to the data and the ability to generate alarms (by email or SMS) if trigger levels are exceeded.
