Certain changes of building use require floors to be checked for deflections under simulated serviceability limit state loading, in accordance with BS8110:Pt 2. Strainstall has deflection measurement equipment mounted on extendable masts, which can be erected quickly beneath a slab for this purpose. Load is applied either using water filled bags/mattresses or kentledge, or a combination of the two, depending upon the level of load that needs to be applied. All the displacement sensors are linked to a data logger and data is monitored and recorded during the test to ensure that the safe movement limits are not exceeded. Following the tests, graphs of the test data are presented to the client in a report.
